Bethany was born in Richmond, VA and raised in Virginia Beach, VA. From a very young age she discovered her passion for music and performing by participating in community youth choirs like the Tidewater Youth and Advisers Fellowship Choir and by participating in musical groups and programming offered at her schools. When she was preparing to enter high school she was afforded the opportunity to audition for The Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) in Norfolk, VA. While studying there her love of and enthusiasm for music and performing grew exponentially.
After graduation from GSA, she was accepted to The College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) at The University of Cincinnati (UC) in Cincinnati, OH. There she had a plethora of experiences inside and outside her Voice Performance Bachelors Degree program. An avid believer in community involvement and empowerment, she was an Executive Board Member of Brothers And Sisters Excelling (BASE) through the African American Cultural and Research Center (AACRC) on campus, as well as a soprano section leader for the AACRC Choir. During her third year at CCM she competed for and won the coveted 1st Prize in the Bauer/Powell Vocal Scholarship Competition. She also distinguished herself by gaining acceptance to several honorary organizations on campus including Sigma Phi's Women's Honorary and The Lambda Society. She was proud to represent her college (CCM) as a Student Senator for three years actively participating in planning many Student Government initiatives while serving.
As recreational work she assisted many student organizations and friends with planning and executing events. She has overseen numerous projects such as The 2008 Miss Black and Gold Pageant hosted by the Alpha Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, the musical stage play Go Get Your Life Back which had performances in both Cincinnati, OH and Dayton, OH. She also stage managed several student fashion shows and concerts while attending UC as well as planning and executing her own recital. As she progressed through her degree program she discovered her love of and passion for educating youth to encourage their creativity and growth.
After graduation, she moved to her current residence in Charlotte, NC. There she has flourished while using all her gifts as a stage manager (Mayfield Memorial Missionary Baptist Church [MMMBC] and Children's Theatre of Charlotte), sound and video engineer (MMMBC), and (one of her favorite labors of love) working with children as Director of Imagine...ME! Summer Day Camp (MMMBC). She was also Auditions Coordinator at Northwest School of the Arts and is currently the General Music Teacher at Highland Creek Elementary School (HCES). At HCES, she is adviser to two extra curricular clubs (choir and drama). Each year, she produces two fully staged musicals (Fall and Spring). Also, the choir (The Highland Harmonizers) performs throughout the year around the Charlotte community.
